Footloose Mind

Short Stories from the Phillipines and America

From the Publisher: This fictional collection mostly reflect the local history and culture of tribal Filipinos, particularly in my remote town of Cantilan , Surigao del Sur, at the Pacific seaboard of eastern Mindanao , Southern Philippines . I’ve discovered their practices in mountain villages by personal immersion with them for many years. They are mostly ignored in the lowlands, resulting into the alienations of mountain and coastal peoples from the same ancestral beginnings.

Seven stories from this compilation previously appeared in prestigious Philippine weekly magazines in English. “Tausug (man-of-the-sea-current) Lamb” won third prize - cash and plaque - in the 1991-92 Philippines Free Press-Philippine Geothermal, Inc. National Literary Contest. It’s cited as an “Outstanding contribution to Philippine Arts and Letters,” on the awards night, 26th August, 1992 at the Mindanao Ballroom, Philippine Plaza hotel, Metro Manila.
